PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has affirmed his commitment to being the voice of the people, whether through official channels or social media. The MCA president, known for sharing his views on social issues through various platforms, stated that he utilizes both official and social media channels to voice his opinions to the government.

While some may perceive him as solely focused on social media, Dr Wee emphasized that he also communicates through official channels to ensure that his views are heard. In a recent Facebook post, he shared that he actively voices his opinions through proper channels, with the hope that the government will acknowledge and consider constructive criticism beneficial to the people and the nation.

To illustrate his point, the Ayer Hitam MP shared screenshots of a written response he received to a parliamentary question directed at the Finance Ministry. The question pertained to the possibility of exempting electricity from the recent Sales and Service Tax (SST) increase from 6% to 8%.

Additionally, Dr Wee queried the ministry regarding the ICPT mechanism and why the rate had not decreased despite global fuel cost decreases. The ICPT, introduced in 2014, allows utilities to adjust electricity tariffs every six months based on changes in fuel and generation-related costs, with any savings or additional costs passed on to consumers as rebates or surcharges.

In his interactions with the Finance Ministry, Dr Wee continues to advocate for the interests of the people, addressing pertinent issues such as electricity tariffs and the ICPT mechanism. By utilizing both official and social media channels, he aims to ensure that his voice is heard and that constructive feedback is considered for the benefit of the nation.

As a representative of the people, Dr Wee remains dedicated to advocating for transparency, accountability, and fairness in policies that affect citizens. By actively participating in the dialogue on social media and official channels, he strives to create awareness and promote positive change for the betterment of society.

His efforts to engage with the government and address pressing issues reflect his determination to uphold the interests of the people and work towards ensuring a more responsive and responsible governance.
