Two police officers in George Town have been arrested after testing positive for drugs in their urine tests, despite having no narcotics in their possession. Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usof Jan Mohamad disclosed that the Deputy Superintendent, 39, and the 42-year-old sergeant from the Central Seberang Prai district headquarters tested positive for benzo and THC.
As a result, the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department and the district team conducted a drug screening on all present officers. The two officers were subsequently detained for 24 hours, but a magistrate rejected a remand order, citing their active duty status allowing them to attend investigations at any time. This was revealed by Mohamed Usof at a press conference in George Town on Monday.
Mohamed Usof also mentioned that no directive to suspend the officers had been issued, and they remained on duty pending the results of the pathology report. – Bernama
