KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, including the husband of an orphanage caretaker, have been apprehended on suspicion of molesting and mistreating two orphans residing at the facility.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail has stated that two adolescent victims were brought to the police station on October 26 by the Welfare Department.
“The welfare officer received a call from the victims’ school, went there and transported the teenagers to the hospital. A subsequent report was lodged, detailing the abuse suffered by the two orphans,” he explained in a statement on Friday (Oct 27).
The first victim, a 14-year-old girl, was reportedly assaulted by the foreign husband of a caretaker on October 22, subsequent to being scolded. It is alleged that the suspect reprimanded her for using a cell phone.
“The suspect slapped her and utilized a wooden object to strike her on her thigh,” he added.
ACP Mohd Azam mentioned that the second victim, a 13-year-old girl, was subjected to molestation by a volunteer caretaker on October 20.
“The perpetrator endeavored to sexually assault her but discontinued after a friend of the victim entered the room,” he elaborated, noting that the accused volunteer had a previous criminal history.
Both suspects are 27 years old and were apprehended on October 26 in Jalan Sri Kemuning.
“A medical examination of the first victim revealed bruises along the side and back of her left thigh, as well as a swollen left cheek. The second victim did not sustain any injuries,” he revealed.
Both men have been detained until November 2.
Investigations confirmed that the facility is registered with the Welfare Department.
