Traders operating the four shops affected by the fire at Larkin Market on Sunday morning will receive RM5,000 each in aid, according to Mohd Hairi Mad Shah. As the state youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman, Mohd Hairi stated that this assistance is aimed at alleviating the burden faced by the affected businesses. He further added that the state government will provide assistance to the four traders through the Johor Entrepreneur Corporation (PUJB) and other agencies under his portfolio in the form of grants or loans. The initial aid of RM5,000 will be given to boost the morale of the affected traders after experiencing such a tragic event. Mohd Hairi made these statements during a press conference following his visit to the market.
He also mentioned that the Fire and Rescue Department is currently investigating the extent of the losses caused by the fire. Despite the damage, he expressed his gratitude that no injuries were reported during the incident. Mohd Hairi also expressed his appreciation to the Fire and Rescue Department for their prompt response in reaching the site within four minutes, which prevented the fire from spreading further. The Larkin Market, also known as Pasar Awam Larkin, is connected to the Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal.
Mohd Hairi, who is the Larkin Assemblyman, assured that Larkin Sentral will continue its operations as usual, with only the affected area being closed while the Fire and Rescue Department carries out their investigation. He stated that the closure only applies to the four affected shops and the immediate vicinity, as there are over 600 shops in the building.
Earlier reports indicated that a fire broke out early Sunday morning, resulting in the destruction of four shops at the Larkin Market.
