The Election Commission (EC) has announced the dates for the Pelangai by-election. The Nomination Day will take place on September 23, while polling day will be on October 7. Early voting has been scheduled for October 3. The EC chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, made the announcement on August 24.
Pelangai has a total of 16,456 registered voters. The by-election is being held due to the sudden death of the assemblyman Datuk Johari Harun on August 17. He was a member of the Pahang exco. Johari, along with seven other individuals, lost their lives in a plane crash in Selangor. The fatal incident occurred at around 2.40pm. Johari was 53 years old.
Among the victims of the plane crash were also an ehailing driver and a food delivery rider who were on the road at the time of the accident.
