The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) construction has achieved 50.29% completion up until August this year, as revealed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Loke stated that 2023 is the peak year for ECRL construction, involving significant structural works like beam launching, station construction, and track laying.
“At present, construction activities such as bridge construction using beam launcher machinery, dredging works, structural works, and tunnel construction are actively underway along the ECRL line.
“For the first Genting tunnel, tunnelling using the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) method has reached 3.10km, while the second Genting tunnel has reached 4.29km.
“Each Genting tunnel, which is the only twin tunnel of the ECRL project, is 16.39km long.
“Furthermore, as of August 25, a total of 25 tunnels have been successfully penetrated, including 21 tunnels in Section A and Section B, with the remaining four tunnels in Section C,” he disclosed in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Sept 19).
Loke stated that the ECRL construction is progressing on schedule, with an expected completion date of December 31, 2026, from Kota Baru, Kelantan to ITT Gombak in Selangor. Meanwhile, the stretch from Gombak to Port Klang is projected to be completed on December 31, 2027.
“The ECRL project will have a ripple effect, enhancing access to job opportunities and economic centers, and stimulating economic activities along the ECRL corridor for a more balanced distribution of socio-economic opportunities,” Loke added.
On Monday (Sept 18), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government has approved the ECRL Integrated Land Use Master Plan, or PeGTaECRL.
He stated that the document will drive development around 20 stations and along the identified ECRL routes.
