Starting this week, schools under the Education Ministry in Malaysia will receive RM650 million out of the RM1.4 billion allocated for the repair of dilapidated school buildings across the country. This amount also includes funds for toilet repairs, with the aim of providing comfort to students and motivating them to attend school.
According to the Education director-general, Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali (pic), a comprehensive list of schools and the necessary repairs has already been compiled. The Special Task Force on Agency Reform (STAR), under the Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), will oversee and expedite the renovation process for the dilapidated schools.
Each school will receive RM70,000 for minor maintenance, including toilet repairs. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the importance of well-maintained toilets, as it can contribute to children’s enthusiasm for attending school. The announcement for the additional allocation of RM1.4 billion for the repair of dilapidated schools was made by the prime minister on July 23.
The repair of dilapidated schools is a significant step towards improving the education infrastructure in Malaysia. These funds will not only facilitate the restoration of school buildings but also ensure that students have access to proper facilities. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for children.
