MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong expressed surprise at the response of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek during a question time at parliament on Monday (Nov 27). Dr. Wee Ka Siong shared his surprise in a Facebook post on Monday night about the way the Education Minister responded to his query regarding the shortage of teachers in Chinese primary schools (SJKC).
In his Facebook post, Dr. Wee Ka Siong wrote, “Many people asked me, why is the Education Minister so angry with me?” He continued to explain, “Two weeks ago, the Minister just answered Raub MP’s (Chow Yu Hui) question by saying that the Education Ministry will not train Chinese language option teachers at SJKC from 2024 to 2029 because there is no need.”
Dr. Wee Ka Siong added, “Imagine the Ministry not training new teachers for SJKC during the six years. What will happen?” He further elaborated that last week, the Deputy Education Minister stated in the Dewan Rakyat that there are 1,354 unfilled posts at SJKC which contradicted the information from the Minister.
Dr. Wee Ka Siong emphasized the public interest in the issue, stating “I just want to confirm and clarify with the minister about the latest stance regarding the recruitment of teachers at SJKC for the next six years. Doesn’t this involve public interest?” He also highlighted his responsibility as a Member of Parliament to speak up for the impact that may affect hundreds of thousands of students in the future.
Dr. Wee concluded by expressing his hope that every Minister will answer questions more professionally and accurately for the benefit of the people.
