The Education Ministry has reaffirmed its decision to not bring back the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), despite calls from parents to reinstate it as a benchmark for their children’s achievement at the primary school level.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the ministry is currently focused on the 2027 School Curriculum Implementation Survey in order to develop a new school curriculum that will ensure a brighter future in education.
“So, I urge all parents to focus on the (2027 School Curriculum Implementation Survey) roadshow as we want the widest possible engagement to obtain input to enhance the nation’s education system,” Fadhlina told reporters after launching the “Taman Angkat Amanita Taman Pekaka” at SMK Saujana Indah on Saturday (Oct 28).
The decision to abolish the UPSR exams was made by the government in 2021 after engaging with various parties following its cancellation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a separate statement, Fadhlina, who is also the Nibong Tebal MP, called on anyone who detected any anomalies in the allocation of RM70,000 to each school for toilet repairs to report it to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“We do monitor the situation, but if there is any issue, I urge for it to be reported directly to MACC, so that these fraudulent activities can be addressed by the authorities,” she said.
“We allocate the funds in phases, including for government-assisted schools,” she added.
On Friday (Oct 27), Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman expressed disappointment in a Facebook post after discovering numerous issues related to the project during a surprise visit to a school. She called for immediate action by the contractors and District Education Department to resolve the matter. – Bernama
