According to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, the Academic Session Final Test (UASA) mastery level system will now use a percentage and grade structure starting this year. This decision was made after receiving feedback from parents, teachers, and other stakeholders regarding the current curriculum issues.

Fadhlina also mentioned that the reporting for classroom-based assessment (PBD) will be simplified and accessible online for parents through the Integrated Assessment Management System.

“The PBD mastery level report will be simplified, and the UASA mastery level report for all subjects will now be presented in the form of percentage and grade,” she announced during the ministry’s curriculum intervention to address learning loss among schoolchildren.

As part of the new measures, Year One pupils will undergo a literacy and numeracy detection programme to identify those who have not yet mastered the 3M skills of reading, writing, and counting.

Other initiatives introduced by Fadhlina include the KSSR Alignment Document (Revision 2017) Edition 3 for Science and Mathematics Level One subjects.

“The curriculum alignment aims to update and reorganise subject content for Science and Mathematics lessons at Level One, which covers Years One to Three,” she explained.

Fadhlina also mentioned that this document can be used by teachers alongside the Level One Science and Mathematics Guidance Module as an option for implementing the primary school curriculum.

For the time being, the ministry’s focus is on Science and Mathematics, with plans to address Bahasa Malaysia and English next. The information will be shared with all primary school Science and Mathematics teachers through workshops and training sessions.

“These interventions in the current curriculum aim to provide teachers, parents, and students with the opportunity to master these subjects, especially Mathematics and Science,” she emphasized.

It’s important to note that the new curriculum changes will only take effect in 2027.
