THE Sibu Ehailing Association has been formed to protect the interest of gig workers.

“Make good use of the association as a platform to voice your concerns and collectively address the challenges prevailing in the ehailing industry,” said Dudong SUPP chairman Wong Ching Yong.

Speaking at the association’s inaugural annual general meeting (AGM), Wong said with the establishment of the association, it was now more advantageous for ehailing drivers to convey their needs to the government.

This includes seeking allocations from elected representatives through the association to promote member’s welfare and industry development initiatives.

“I also hope ehailing drivers can unite under this newly established association and work together to overcome challenges they face,” he said.

Wong said as ehailing was an emerging industry, drivers were bound to encounter challenges.

By forming an association to unite themselves, they can collectively voice their concerns, enabling the government to have a clearer understanding of their situation and, subsequently, improve issues more efficiently.

“I truly understand that ehailing drivers work hard every day to make a living, and the challenges they face in their operations should not be overlooked.

“That’s why I made the commitment to assist in forming an association, regardless of the election outcome,” Wong said, referring to his loss in the 2022 General Election for the Lanang parliamentary seat.

“Having fulfilled my promise, the onus now falls upon ehailing drivers to maximise the potential of this platform for their benefit,” he said.
