An elderly couple is experiencing fear and distress after their house and cars were targeted with red paint in what appears to be an act carried out by loan sharks. The incident reportedly occurred in the early morning of September 3, according to Chiang Leong Pan, a 60-year-old technician. Chiang explained that his aunt, who was visiting at the time, woke him up and informed him about the red paint. All three vehicles, including his aunt’s car, were splashed with the paint, which also found its way onto the gate and wall.

Additional damning evidence was discovered on the wall in the form of paper with Chiang’s house address, daughter-in-law’s name, and phone numbers written in black marker. It is believed that the mentioned telephone number belongs to the loan shark, with a red marker-written message of ‘Last Warning’ being left. Chiang noted these details during a press conference hosted by Perak Barisan Nasional Public Service and Complaints Centre Chief, Mohd Rawi Abdullah, at the MRA Homestay on Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah on Wednesday, September 6.

The elderly couple promptly filed a police report in response to the incident. However, they faced further difficulties in contacting their daughter-in-law, who had been working in Singapore along with their son for the past seven years. Chiang’s daughter-in-law, who used to work as a promoter, allegedly owed money that led to the loan sharks targeting the family. The couple currently shares their house with their son, wife, and one-year-old grandchild.

Mohd Rawi, who has been receiving numerous similar cases lately, revealed that this attack followed a pattern usually adopted by loan sharks. Borrowers typically obtain the loan sharks’ contact details via social media, and upon sharing personal information, including guarantor details, the money will be immediately transferred. In cases of non-payment, the loan sharks will then target the guarantor, as is currently happening in this situation.

To address this issue, Mohd Rawi plans to write a letter to Bukit Aman. Nevertheless, he also strongly advises the public to refrain from borrowing money from loan sharks and instead seek licensed operators for financial assistance.
