An elderly man tragically perished in a fire that consumed a Class C residence on Jalan Kereta Api Lama, Batu 9 in Klang, Selangor. His brother, however, managed to survive the ordeal.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar revealed that the emergency call reporting the fire came in at 10.26pm on Tuesday (April 9).
Firefighters worked diligently to bring the blaze under control, achieving success by 11.23pm. Tragically, during their search of the premises, they discovered the remains of the 79-year-old victim beneath a pile of wood in the extensively damaged house.
Fortunately, another elderly man was rescued unharmed by members of the public, a small silver lining in the midst of the tragedy,” Mukhlis stated in a released statement on Wednesday (April 10).
A team of 15 firefighters from the Kapar, Sungai Pinang, and Kota Raja stations collaborated and managed to extinguish the flames within approximately 20 minutes.
Ongoing investigations have been launched to establish the root cause of the fire and evaluate the extent of the damage incurred, Mukhlis added. – Bernama
