    Elderly woman dies after being hit by an express bus in Sabah

    An elderly woman was killed in a tragic accident on the main Telupid- Ranau road in Sabah’s east coast Beluran district after being struck by an express bus. Beluran district police chief Supt Kasim Muda stated that the 78-year-old woman passed away at the Telupid hospital three hours after being hit by the bus at approximately 2.30pm on Saturday (Dec 24).

    Furthermore, Supt Kasim mentioned that the 26 passengers aboard the bus, which was driven by a 36-year-old man, sustained injuries in the incident that took place near Kampung Bauto. The bus had been en route from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan at the time of the tragedy.

    According to Supt Kasim, preliminary investigations indicated that the woman had suddenly crossed the road, and the bus driver was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. As a result, the victim was thrown a distance and suffered severe head injuries. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries at 5.35pm.

    He added that the case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (1987) and is still ongoing.

    The tragic incident took place in Beluran district, located in the east coast of Sabah. The 78-year-old woman was fatally struck by an express bus while crossing the main Telupid- Ranau road. The express bus was on its way from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan at the time of the tragic event. As a result of the collision, the woman was thrown a distance and suffered grave head injuries. She ultimately passed away at 5.35pm as a result of her injuries.

    The responsible parties have initiated an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (1987) to look into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The investigation is currently ongoing.
