The Election Commission (EC) has announced that a special meeting will be held on October 17 to discuss the upcoming by-election in Kemaman, Terengganu. The meeting will be chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh. Among the topics that will be discussed are the writ date for the election, nomination and voting dates, the electoral roll to be used, and other necessary preparations.

EC secretary Datuk Indera Ikmalrudin Ishak has confirmed that no appeal has been filed regarding the election petition. This petition calls for the nullification of the results of the parliamentary election in Kemaman, which took place on November 19, 2022. As no notice was received within the 14-day appeal period, in accordance with Section 36C of the Elections Offences Act 1954 and provisions under the Federal Constitution, the EC will issue a notice to fill the vacant seat within 60 days from the last day of the appeal period.
