The Election Court in Melaka on Friday (Oct 27) upheld the victory of Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Masjid Tanah in the 15th general election (GE15).
Judge Datuk Abu Bakar Katar, presiding over the Election Court, rejected the election petition brought by Barisan Nasional candidate Abdul Hakim Abdul Wahid, in an attempt to have the victory of Perikatan Nasional candidate Mas Ermieyati Samsudin nullified.
After careful consideration, Judge Abu Bakar Katar ruled that the petitioner had failed to provide sufficient evidence of corrupt practices during the GE15 campaign.
In January, Abdul Hakim filed an election petition alleging that corrupt activities, such as the distribution of money and extravagant feasts, were used to entice voters during GE15, according to Bernama news agency.
