REMBAU: Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, the deputy chairman of Barisan Nasional, has advised political parties in the unity government participating in the upcoming six state elections on Aug 12 to avoid openly displaying their support for their preferred Mentri Besar candidate. According to Mohamad, this decision should be reserved for discussion after the elections are over. He emphasized the need to focus on winning the elections first and suggested that Barisan and Pakatan Harapan leaders can address this matter at a later stage. Mohamad shared his thoughts on the issue during the opening of an employment carnival in Rembau yesterday.

Meanwhile, on Friday night, Negri Sembilan DAP expressed its desire for Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to serve a second term as Mentri Besar if Pakatan and Barisan successfully defend the state in the polls. Anthony Loke, the state DAP chief and party secretary-general, stated that he would convey the state DAP’s stance to the Pakatan leadership. Mohamad highlighted that the ultimate decision of appointing the Mentri Besar lies with the state Ruler, demonstrating this with an example from the Johor election where Umno’s candidate did not become the Mentri Besar as chosen by the state Ruler.

Regarding another matter, Mohamad, a four-term Rantau assemblyman, mentioned that he will announce the Barisan Nasional candidate for the Rantau seat on July 29, which is the nomination day. He disclosed that despite proposing several names, all of them declined the opportunity to be fielded as the Barisan Nasional candidate. This has put him in a challenging situation as a decision cannot be reached. When questioned about defending the Rantau seat, Mohamad did not rule out the possibility and indicated that the residents have shown support for another term.

Overall, Mohamad Hasan urges political parties to focus on winning the elections before considering the selection of the Mentri Besar. The decision ultimately lies with the state Ruler, as stated by the law. The upcoming state elections and the appointment of the Mentri Besar hold significant importance, and all parties involved must navigate these matters wisely.
