    Elmina crash: Bodies of victims to be released today

    KLANG: Selangor Police Chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan has announced that the remains of the nine victims from the tragic Elmina, Shah Alam incident will be released to their families on Sunday, August 20.

    The completion of the identification process has paved the way for this solemn procedure. Hearses have been strategically positioned at Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah, poised to transport the remains of the victims, while the Selangor Religious Islamic Department (JAIS) will oversee the careful management of this sensitive process.

    The bodies will be gradually handed over to their respective families, with coordination centered at the Masjid Al-Rahimiah for the last prayers, before proceeding to individual funeral services.

    Tragedy struck on August 17, as a total of 10 lives were lost, including eight individuals on board a light aircraft. The catastrophe occurred near the Elmina Township in Selangor.

    The victims’ list includes an e-hailing driver and a food delivery rider who were unfortunate casualties of the plane crash. The incident took place around 2:40 pm, shortly after the aircraft, originating from Langkawi, received clearance to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.

    Regrettably, the aircraft lost communication with the control tower and eventually crashed into Persiaran Elmina.

    Among the victims, the tragedy claimed the life of the first-term Pelangai state assemblyman and Pahang exco member, Datuk Seri Johari Harun. The other victims were identified as pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, as well as passengers Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Mohamad Naim Fawwaz Mohamed Muaidi, Muhammad Taufiq Mohd Zaki, and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali.

    Additionally, the incident claimed the lives of two road users, namely Muhamad Hafiz and Sharipuddin Shaari.

    In response to the tragic event, Selangor Police Chief Hussein Omar Khan has shared that the decision to release the remains in stages on Sunday morning was reached after the meticulous completion of the identification process.

    The local community has witnessed hearses stationed at Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah, poised to carry the victims’ remains to their respective families. Crucially, the coordination of this somber process will be managed by the Selangor Religious Islamic Department (JAIS).

    As the communities affected by this tragedy prepare to bid their final farewells, the victims’ remains will be initially transported to the Masjid Al-Rahimiah, where heartfelt funeral prayers will be offered.

    The process will then proceed to the individual funeral services, where family and friends can pay their respects and find solace in coming together during this deeply sorrowful time. The Elmina, Shah Alam incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, prompting collective reflection on the value of safety, communication, and the importance of cherishing each moment with loved ones.
