The remains of Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh, the delivery rider who perished in the Elmina crash tragedy, will be sent back home to Kedah on Sunday (Aug 19), says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

At a press conference at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) Klang here on Sunday, the Selangor police chief said that Muhamad Hafiz’s remains had been handed over to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

“The body was handed over to Jais this morning and they will organise the journey back to Sungai Petani, Kedah, as per the wishes of his family,” he said.

On another matter, he said that the Chemistry Department was still working on over 200 samples.

“There were samples that were difficult to test but from DNA testing, we have identified one body.

“Besides DNA testing, we have also conducted fingerprint identification and Bukit Aman has identified eight matches which could lead to the identification of eight bodies,” he said.

He said that they could not rush the process as they had to ensure that the remains are handed over as complete as possible but hoped it could be completed by Monday.

“We are working 24 hours a day. What we can say is that JAIS will perform the ‘mandi jenazah’ (cleansing ritual) and prayers and we advise the family to proceed with the burial.

“Let the last memory of the family of the victims be the image they have of them,” he said.

He added that they would decide later if a second body will be released on Monday (Aug 20).
