KLANG: Approximately 50 families and relatives of the victims involved in the Elmina plane crash have gathered at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang since Friday (Aug 18) morning to provide DNA samples for identification purposes.

They were spotted waiting at a tent located in the forensics department, taking turns to provide the necessary samples.

Pahang assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin and Peramu Jaya state assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Nizar Najib were present to offer moral support to the affected families.

The police have cordoned off certain sections of the forensic area in HTAR.

According to reports, DNA sampling commenced yesterday (Aug 17) while the post-mortem examination will be conducted today.

Yesterday, HTAR Klang director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi stated that a team of 10 forensic personnel would be conducting autopsies on the crash victims.

Ten individuals were reportedly killed when the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) plane crashed on the Guthrie Highway at approximately 2.50pm.

The casualties include two flight crew members, six passengers – including Pahang local government, housing, environment, and green technology committee chairman Datuk Seri Johari Harun.

Additionally, a motorist and a motorcyclist who happened to be passing by the area also lost their lives instantly.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain revealed that only one body was found intact, and it belonged to the motorcyclist. The remaining five bodies were discovered in various conditions, with some missing body parts.

“At the moment, our priority is to recover the victims’ remains and clear the crash site. The Air Accident Investigation Bureau will retrieve the black box,” he mentioned. He also added that efforts are being made round-the-clock to retrieve the victims’ remains and the aircraft wreckage.
