    Elmina plane crash: Grab reaches out to family of ehailing driver who perished

    PETALING JAYA: Grab Malaysia has reached out to the family of its driver-partner, Sharipuddin Shaari, who perished in the Thursday (Aug 17) incident where a light aircraft crashed on the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam.

    “On behalf of the Grab family, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of our dedicated driver-partner.

    “Sharipuddin was a hardworking individual, and it deeply saddens us that this unfortunate incident occurred while he was earnestly working to earn a living.

    “We empathise with your grief during this time of loss,” read a statement from Grab Malaysia on Friday (Aug 18) evening.

    “Our team has reached out to Sharipuddin’s family to coordinate and provide the necessary support. We will also ensure that the family receives further assistance.

    “This will include payout from Grab Partners’ zakat wakalah fund and contributions from the Grab Malaysia team as well as from the community of driver-partners.

    “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family as well as to the victims, and their families affected by the tragic Elmina plane crash,” said Grab Malaysia.

    Meanwhile, Foodpanda Malaysia also expressed their sadness over losing one of their rider-partners.

    “It is with deep regret that we convey the news of our rider, the late Muhammad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh, who was among the victims of the airplane crash incident in Elmina,” it said on its social media channels.

    Ten people were killed after the Beechcraft 390 plane crashed on the Guthrie Highway on Thursday.

    Two flight crew members and six passengers – including Pahang local government, housing, environment and green technology committee chairman Datuk Seri Johari Harun – were killed in the tragedy.

    Muhamad Hafiz was a p-hailing rider who happened to be passing by the area. Another motorist was also killed on impact.
