STAR Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to making a positive impact in underserved and marginalized communities by donating approximately RM45,000 to three non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Throughout its existence, the foundation has given out over RM20 million to more than 360 NGOs, covering various sectors such as health, education, and social welfare.

These donations aim to support causes and provide assistance to individuals and communities in need.

    Assisting dialysis patients

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Malaysia focuses on improving kidney care and management.

NKF CEO Khor Xin Yun highlighted that one of the organization’s main focuses is providing treatment, particularly hemodialysis, which heavily relies on machines.

“Maintaining the machines and providing hemodialysis services come with significant financial implications.

“One of our biggest challenges is the high capital required for these machines.

“We are grateful to donors like the Star Foundation for helping us acquire these machines.”

The RM20,000 donation from Star Foundation will go towards purchasing a Far Infrared Therapy Machine for one of NKF’s 29 dialysis centers.

This machine will benefit 24 dialysis patients at NKF’s Chempaka center in Petaling Jaya by improving blood flow during treatments and reducing the risk of blood clots.

Typically, beneficiaries undergo four-hour dialysis sessions three times a week.

“We are developing various programs to effectively assist those at higher risk of kidney disease or kidney failure,” said Khor.

NKF has helped over 6,000 patients during its 50 years of operation.

In 2015, Star Foundation donated a dialysis machine worth RM45,000 to NKF, which is still in use at the Pusat Dialisis NKF-Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Darul Ta’azim in Permas Jaya, Johor Baru. It has been used for approximately 8,000 sessions.

    Providing laptops for digital learning

True to its commitment to the education of vulnerable communities, Star Foundation donated four laptops worth nearly RM15,000 to Persatuan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Istimewa Selangor (Orkids).

According to center coordinator Sri Rahayu Samsudin, this donation will benefit more than 15 individuals with Down Syndrome who are aged 15 and above.

She mentioned that Orkids ensures every student has access to digital technology, and the curriculum is designed to equip students with essential software skills while enhancing communication and presentation abilities.

“We plan to expand our training opportunities beyond traditional vocational skills like baking and laundry, which are currently available.

“Today, fluency in digital technology is crucial, as it can enrich students’ daily lives and open doors to future career opportunities.

“The laptops will benefit not only the children but also the teachers who implement these programs.”

In 2017, Star Foundation contributed RM25,000 for a multifunction room used for occupational therapy services at the Petaling Jaya center, enabling beneficiaries to develop fine motor skills, master basic life skills, and cultivate positive behaviors.

    Caring for the elderly

Star Foundation also extended support to Pusat Jagaan Rumah Orang-Orang Tua (PKK) Simee in Ipoh, Perak.

A donation of five LED TV sets worth approximately RM10,000 replaced the center’s outdated LCD TVs.

PKK Simee Chairman Vincent Lee mentioned that the new smart TVs provide entertainment and mental stimulation for the home’s 39 residents, who range in age from 66 to 99.

“The old TVs were used for over 10 years and were showing signs of wear and tear, with some lacking sound or visuals.”

Star Foundation previously donated nearly RM50,000 to the organization, which provides shelter to homeless and abandoned seniors.

Last year, seven seniors received wheelchairs as a gift, improving their mobility.

Established in 2004, Star Foundation is the charitable branch of Star Media Group and aims to implement meaningful initiatives that have a lasting impact on diverse beneficiary groups.
