PETALING JAYA: A touching viral video of a farewell ceremony for a much-loved security guard at a school in Ipoh has captured the hearts of many Internet users.
The heartwarming video, filmed at SK Bandar Baru Putera on Jalan Bercham in Ipoh on Thursday (Nov 30), shows a long line of students bidding goodbye to 50-year-old K. Kittu, affectionately known as “Uncle Kittu”.
Students can be seen shaking his hand, giving hugs, and presenting farewell gifts. One particularly enthusiastic student even lifts Kittu off his feet, demonstrating just how beloved he is by the students.
Kittu also received numerous other gifts and hampers as a token of appreciation for his service to the school community.
Kittu, who served at the school for six years, expressed that he considered everyone at the school to be “like family”.
“I had to stop working here because I have moved to Taman Seri Klebang and the school is quite far away,” said Kittu.
Overwhelmed by the lively farewell ceremony, Kittu said, “I cried when the students spoke to me and I also received so many gifts that my car was full.”
Describing the most meaningful part of the farewell, he stated, “The most memorable are the letters from the students and their messages reminding me to take care of my health,” in an interview with Sinar Harian.
The father of four, who used to work as a lorry driver, expressed reluctance to leave his job due to the touching farewell.
As he reflected on his time at the school, he said, “I will miss welcoming students to school as early as 6.30am in the morning and helping them cross the road.”
Social media users also lauded the efforts of the school and the farewell ceremony, emphasizing that it symbolized love, harmony, and mutual respect for one another.
