PETALING JAYA: Speculation is rife that Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, the current chief executive officer of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), will be appointed as the next Finance Minister II in the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle scheduled for Tuesday (Dec 12).

Amir Hamzah, who took on the role at EPF in March 2021, is one of multiple changes expected as part of the reshuffle by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also holds the position of Finance Minister.

Prior to his position at EPF, Amir served as the chief executive officer of Tenaga Nasional Berhad from 2019 to 2021.

He is the son of Tun Azizan Zainul Abidin, the former chairman and president of Petronas.

There are indications that V. Sivakumar, the Minister of Human Resources, may be on the way out, with some sources suggesting that this move is linked to his performance.

It is anticipated that another leader from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) will be appointed as his replacement.
