The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has urged event organisers to resolve conflicts and prevent them from escalating into physical altercations that could damage Malaysia’s reputation.

In response to a brawl that occurred during the Desaru International Bike Week, Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing emphasized the need for organisers to proactively mediate disputes between parties involved in order to find a peaceful resolution.

He particularly emphasized the importance of this for international events, highlighting that there is no need for violence and it is better to engage in peaceful discussions.

Tiong expressed concern about how such brawls negatively impact the country’s reputation, especially when they occur at international events.

He reminded reporters that the police were currently investigating the incident and requested for space to allow them to carry out their work.

The incident in question, which went viral on social media, involved groups of people in leather attire throwing chairs and barstools at each other amidst loud music in a sandy area.

The Desaru International Bike Week, which took place for the second time since 2019, drew both local and international bikers for a three-day event filled with exhibitions, concerts, bazaars, and beach sports.

In response to questioning about whether the ministry would implement stricter guidelines for event organisers, Tiong explained that events of this scale usually involve multiple ministries and stated that his ministry would advise organisers under its responsibility to take note and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
