A former PAS assemblyman, along with 50 other party members, has joined Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Najib Lep, who previously held the Bukit Pasir assemblyman position, submitted his membership form to Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu after a ceramah at Taman Desa on September 2.
Mohamad Sabu stated, “He has the right (to choose) and he has chosen to be with Amanah. We hope he will contribute his ideas and energy to the party in the upcoming two Johor by-elections.”
Amanah is anticipated to receive the membership form of another former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader and 150 new members in Johor Baru on September 3.
There is speculation that former Johor state executive councillor Datuk Mohd Izhar Ahmad will also join Amanah.
Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan disclosed that two former key leaders from PAS and Bersatu, along with 200 members, are expected to join Amanah.
Najib secured the Bukit Pasir state seat in the 14th General Election, winning with a 1,883 majority in a straight fight against Umno’s Noriah Mahat.
He was the sole PAS assemblyman in Johor prior to the dissolution of the state assembly in 2022.
During the state election, Najib left his former party and contested the same seat as an Independent candidate.
He subsequently joined Umno in October of the following year before moving to Amanah.
