KUALA LUMPUR: Mobile network operators are working together to address the additional fees imposed on 5G subscriptions by some telecommunications companies, according to Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications and Digital Minister stated that the telcos have been fully cooperative with the government.
“One of the key matters discussed is the extra charges.
“I will leave this matter to the (ministry’s) secretary-general, who is also the co-chairman for the 5G implementation committee.
“We need to collaborate with our telco partners, and it’s important to give them some time to coordinate various matters,” he told reporters on Sunday (Nov 5).
Fahmi mentioned that he was informed about impending announcements from some companies.
“Let’s wait for that,” he said.
He further added that the government does not support the imposition of additional charges.
“This is the government’s stance. This is what the minister has requested. We have reiterated that there shouldn’t be any extra fees,” he said.
Reports have highlighted certain telcos introducing additional charges for customers who wish to access and subscribe to the 5G network.
In response to this, Fahmi stated that the government plans to hold discussions with the telcos regarding this issue.
