KULIM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an approval of an additional RM150 million in allocations for the repair and upgrading of quarters and security posts nationwide. This move highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions and facilities of security personnel. Anwar revealed that RM50 million will be allocated for the maintenance of stations and quarters of the Royal Malaysia Police, while RM45 million has been approved for the repair, upgrading, and equipment procurement for 117 control posts of the General Operations Force (GOF).
Furthermore, Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) will receive RM40 million for the upgrading of infrastructure and facilities. Additionally, RM15 million will be allocated for the improvement of quarters and facilities of the Prison Department. Anwar emphasized that these allocations are in addition to the previously announced RM200 million development allocation for the maintenance of quarters and facilities of several agencies under the Home Ministry during the Budget 2023 table.
Anwar made this announcement during an engagement session with the Police Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) at the General Operations Force (GOF) 2nd Battalion Camp in Kulim, Kedah on July 15. In his speech, Anwar expressed the government’s aim to eradicate hardcore poverty in the country this year. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the welfare of all security personnel under the Home Ministry is not neglected.
Initially, Anwar had planned to postpone the allocation to the following year. However, after gaining a better understanding of the situation and recognizing the challenges faced by security agencies, he decided to proceed with the additional allocations. Anwar stated that the total of RM350 million in maintenance allocations will enable security agencies under the Home Ministry to continue performing their duties while living comfortably in their quarters.
Prior to this announcement, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had requested RM43.5 million for the repair and procurement of facilities for all GOF posts across the country. He highlighted that recent inspections have revealed the poor condition of most posts despite the dedication of personnel to their duties. Notable figures such as Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali were present during the session.
