A kindergarten located in Gelang Patah, Johor, has recently achieved a remarkable feat by creating the largest replica of the Jalur Gemilang using painted egg trays, earning them a place in the Malaysia Book of Records.
The headmistress of Mega Genius kindergarten, R. Mohanambal, shared that a total of 2,128 egg trays were utilized in creating the enormous flag, which measures 23 meters in length and 8.5 meters in width.
The process involved painting the egg trays over a course of three weeks, and it took approximately 10 hours to assemble all the trays to form the giant flag.
“The pupils took part in painting the egg trays during their arts-and-crafts session in the classroom,” Mohanambal explained. “We also had parents who volunteered to help paint the trays, and they would come in on Fridays and Saturdays.”
Additionally, a staggering number of people were involved in this project, including 86 pupils, 105 parents, and 13 teachers and staff members.
Mohanambal expressed her admiration for the dedication displayed by both the pupils and their parents, highlighting how some parents working in Singapore would rush to the kindergarten immediately after their shifts to contribute to the painting process.
She also emphasized the enthusiasm of the children, mentioning how they eagerly requested to participate more actively in painting the egg trays despite their young age.
Mohanambal revealed that the kindergarten organizes special activities every year to commemorate National Day and foster a sense of patriotism among its pupils.
“Throughout the National Day month, we conduct various activities, such as simple history lessons, to instill the Merdeka spirit in our pupils,” she said. “Last year, we created a replica of the Jalur Gemilang using coconut shells.”
The process of joining the egg trays commenced on August 22 at Dewan Raya Gelang Patah, with the children being sent home by 7pm while the parents and teachers continued to assemble the trays until around 5am the following day.
A certificate acknowledging this remarkable achievement was presented to the kindergarten by the office manager of Malaysia Book of Records, Lee Pooi Leng, during a ceremony attended by N. Saraswati, the state assemblyman of Kemelah.
