IPOH: The organisers of a creative arts festival here have denied that a group which performed a dance at the venue, which some have deemed as “extreme,” were not actually part of the event. The organisers, People of Remarkable Talents (Port), clarified that the group attended the UBS Band concert as part of the Port Festival at Dataran Ipoh on Aug 20, and performed the dance without involvement or coordination from the organisers themselves.
“The dance was not planned by the organisers and was beyond our control,” stated Port. “However, the organisers would like to apologize if the dance offended any community sensitivities. We are currently reviewing how future concerts and events are organised in order to prevent such incidents from occurring.”
The two-day festival, held on Aug 19-20, aimed to showcase and promote creativity in the arts and culture. Port emphasized that the main objective of the festival was to provide exposure and business opportunities to more than 300 artists in Perak.
With approximately 20,000 visitors, the festival was able to generate roughly RM450,000 in revenue through the sale of food, drinks, creative arts products, performance events, exhibitors, competition, as well as accommodation rentals.
Port added that they would continue to support and promote the local arts scene in Perak and create platforms for artists to showcase their talents.
