Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek expressed her support for the appointment of former Public Accounts Committee chairman Wong Kah Woh as her new deputy minister. She also thanked former deputy education minister Lim Hui Ying for her service in strengthening Malaysia’s education system.

At a memorandum of understanding signing event between the ministry and Selangor Technical Skills Development Center (STDC) on Tuesday (Dec 12), Fadhlina stated, “We welcome the arrival of Wong for the next challenge in 2024 and beyond.” She also expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for allowing her to continue her journey as the Education Minister.

She believes that the level of trust placed in her for the upcoming year is a heavy responsibility and emphasized their commitment to ensuring the country’s education agenda continues to progress. Fadhlina also mentioned that they started shaping the 2027 curriculum framework last week and held a round table discussion on enhancing the quality of national education the day before. She emphasized that the ministry’s efforts persisted with programmes aimed at reinforcing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The MoU signed at the event marked the initiation of a development programme, aimed at providing high-level TVET modules focusing on the latest technology, specifically in the realm of industrial automation and digitization. The joint venture will involve, among others, integrating elements of professional certification into the existing curriculum of vocational colleges across Malaysia, experienced industry professionals serving as technical advisors in the development of modules, and focusing on advancing education and creating new TVET programs that align with the current and future needs of the industry.

Among those present at the event were Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and STDC president Tuan Nazri Noh.
