KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil held discussions with representatives from social media platform providers TikTok and Meta to address concerns regarding the regulation of content.
Fahmi took to Facebook on Thursday (Nov 9) to share that the topics discussed included the removal of Palestine-related content from TikTok, online gambling, and the coordinated inauthentic behavior strategy on the platform.
“During the discussion, I raised a number of complaints and significant issues with the two platforms and urged TikTok and Meta to take immediate action.
“TikTok and Meta have committed to working closely with us to resolve these issues,” he said.
Prior to this, Fahmi had disclosed evidence and consumer complaints suggesting that TikTok had been systematically deleting content from Malaysia related to the Palestine-Israel conflict.
Subsequently, he instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to issue a strong warning to TikTok and Meta, and to arrange a meeting with the social media platform providers to address the issue. – Bernama
