A total of RM126,300 was raised by a church in Kajang to support seven charitable organizations dedicated to children and senior citizens.
The fundraising event, known as the Merdeka Charity and Fun Fair, was held at the Yu Hua school premises.
The Kajang Assembly of God (KAOG), the organizing body, engaged hundreds of church members to operate stalls offering various dishes such as mutton briyani, omelette, nasi lemak, Sarawak laksa, popiah, and mee goreng.
In addition to food stalls, the fair also included game stalls for children and a section for the sale of second-hand goods.
The fair also offered attractions such as a futsal competition and a petting zoo, which particularly delighted the younger attendees.
The official launch of the fair was conducted by Syahredzan Johan, the Member of Parliament for Bangi. In his speech, Johan emphasized the significance of cultural and religious diversity in the Bangi constituency and stressed that the event aimed to benefit the community’s children.
According to Reverend George Dass, the senior pastor of KAOG, over 2,000 individuals visited the charity fair, which took place from 9.30am to 4pm.
Reverend Dass stated, “The primary objective of this fair was to raise funds for welfare homes in Kajang, which have faced significant financial challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.”
The raised funds will be allocated to Desa Amal Jireh, Persatuan Rumah Caring Kajang, Persatuan Kanak-kanak Istimewa Kajang, Openhands Fellowship, Pusat Jagaan Beribuan Kasih, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Warga Emas Sungai Chua, and Persatuan Kebajikan Islam Peribadi Mulia.
