    Fake branded handbags worth RM33,314 seized in Kelantan

    The Kelantan branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has confiscated 829 counterfeit branded handbags worth RM33,314. The seizure took place during joint operations with representatives of trademark owners on October 5 and 6 at two separate locations in Kota Bahru and Machang.

    Azman Ismail, the state director, stated that the seizures were conducted based on a complaint filed by the representative of the trademark owners, as well as intelligence monitoring carried out within Kota Bharu and Kuala Krai for a week. The operations targeted used branded goods being sold online in an effort to combat counterfeit goods and the unauthorized use of registered trademarks.

    “During the inspections, various handbags of different types and brands suspected of trademark violations were discovered,” said Azman in a statement released on October 8.

    According to Azman, these operations resulted in three cases being filed under Section 102 (1)(c) and 100(1)(b) of the Trademark Act 2019. The cases are currently under investigation and Kelantan KPDN has issued a warning to anyone involved in such activities to cease immediately.

    The seizure of counterfeit branded handbags in Kelantan was carried out in collaboration with representatives of registered trademark owners. A total of 829 units of fake branded handbags were confiscated from two separate locations in Kota Bahru and Machang, with an estimated value of RM33,314.

    As a result of a complaint by the trademark owners, as well as a week-long intelligence operation in Kota Bharu and Kuala Krai, the Kelantan branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry conducted inspections at business premises selling used branded goods online. The goal was to combat the sale of counterfeit goods and the unauthorized use of registered trademarks.

    The inspections uncovered various handbags of different types and brands that were suspected of violating registered trademarks. The state director, Azman Ismail, warned individuals or traders engaging in such illegal activities to stop immediately.

    A total of three cases have been filed under the Trademark Act 2019 as a result of these operations. These cases are currently under investigation by the authorities.
