KOTA KINABALU: A fallen tree literally “flattened” a car that was parked at the popular Ujana Rainforest Park along Jalan Penampang here on Tuesday (July 2).

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said no one was inside the vehicle during the 10am incident.

Firemen and Kota Kinabalu City Hall personnel were called in around 10.45am to assist with the removal of the large tree that had crushed the car during a downpour.

Another tree in Tanjung Aru had also fallen on the main road leading to the beach area, resulting in congestion within the vicinity.

Firemen and other rescue services teams including Civil Defence Force personnel have been kept busy to help evacuate people affected by the floods amid continuous rain in the west coast areas of Sabah.

Penampang remains the worst hit district with 297 victims from 93 families being evacuated to the Penampang Cultural Centre shelter while neighbouring Putatan district recorded 138 victims (34 families) at Dewan Sri Putatan relief centre as of Tuesday morning.

Two relief centres in Tuaran are currently providing shelter to a total of 47 flood victims. There are 29 victims from eight families housed at Dewan Balai Raya Kampung Tutu Selupoh while 18 individuals from five families are taking refuge at Dewan Balai Raya Kampung Bontoi in Tamparuli.
