The government has approved RM77,500 in aid for flood victims in Perak who are currently staying in five temporary relief centers (PPS) in the Kerian and Hilir Perak districts.

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary, announced that each family will receive a one-time financial assistance of RM500 based on this allocation.

The five PPS include Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Lobak and SK Alor Pongsu in the Kerian district, and in the Hilir Perak district, it includes the Padang Tembak Multi-Purpose Hall, the Teluk Intan Municipal Council Hall, and the Chikus Multi-Purpose Hall.

“The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) will oversee the distribution of aid to the affected flood victims, ensuring it is done efficiently and properly coordinated,” he told reporters after providing aid to flood victims at PPS SK Changkat Lobak on Saturday (Nov 11).

Shamsul Iskandar presented a donation of RM12,500 to 24 families housed in the PPS before stating that this assistance demonstrates the government’s commitment to alleviating the burdens faced by the people.

“This is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision for developing a compassionate and well-being oriented Malaysia Madani, regardless of race or religion,” he said.

He also urged the State Health Department and local authorities to prioritize hygiene in each PPS to prevent the spread of diseases.

“Cleanliness should be emphasized, and sanitation efforts should be carried out at every PPS, while also ensuring proper waste management to maintain a clean environment.”

“Health screenings should also be conducted to protect each victim in the PPS from diseases,” he added.

Nur Anis Dayana Saad, a flood victim staying at PPS SK Changkat Lobak, expressed her gratitude for the assistance and mentioned that the money will be used for daily necessities.

“My family and I were relocated here on Nov 6, and I can’t wait to go home because it’s more comfortable. I have privacy concerns here as I have a three-month-old child who is still breastfeeding,” she said.

Hasmani Hussin, a housewife, also expressed gratitude and stated that the donation would go towards repairing the damage to her home in Kampung Matang Tengah. – Bernama
