Families affected by the Double Six Nomad crash tragedy in Sabah are considering taking legal action. The families of the victims will be deciding next week whether they will pursue any action against individuals connected to the incident. Datuk Donald Mojuntin, whose father was among those killed in the tragedy, stated that any action taken will be made collectively among the affected families. The decision is still under discussion and is dependent on the agreement of all parties involved.
Mojuntin hopes that the action taken by the families will provide closure and allow their loved ones to rest in peace. He also emphasized the importance of receiving public apologies from both the Sabah and Federal Governments. The classification of the investigation on the tragedy for almost five decades has caused frustration among the bereaved families. The report was declassified earlier this year, but the families found the content of the report unsatisfactory.
Mojuntin expressed the families’ concerns about the annual June 6th anniversary, where questions are raised repeatedly without adequate answers. The classification of the reports without valid reasons has caused suffering for many years and the families believe that it is time for the truth to be revealed.
In April, the federal and Australian governments declassified the investigation reports, which attributed the crash largely to human error and ruled out any defects in the aircraft flaps. The crash claimed the lives of 11 people, including the then chief minister and other high-ranking officials. The aircraft crashed in Sembulan while approaching the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
