SEGAMAT: A tragic accident occurred on Jalan Segamat-Kuantan near Taman Yayasan, resulting in the death of a family of six. The victims included a 46-year-old husband, a 43-year-old wife, their three daughters aged 17, 13, and 10, and their 5-year-old son. They were all traveling in a Perodua Alza vehicle.
An additional victim, a 15-year-old boy, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment, according to Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah.
The incident took place at 6.37pm on Friday (Sept 1). It is believed that an SUV heading towards Kuantan slowed down due to road repairs ahead. As a result, the lorry carrying sand behind it failed to brake in time and collided with the SUV. The impact caused the lorry to veer into the opposite lane and collide with another vehicle heading towards Kuantan.
Two other vehicles were also involved in subsequent accidents. The driver of the lorry sustained serious injuries, while the occupants of the SUV and the other two vehicles were unharmed, added Supt Ahmad Zamry.
Supt Ahmad Zamry urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Segamat Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 07-9325811. The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In response to the distress call received at 6.33pm, the Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Department immediately dispatched two fire trucks and an emergency medical rescue services vehicle, accompanied by 15 personnel, to the scene, informed operation commander Mazuki Ismail.
