A 46-year-old man, Ismail Ibrahim, has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to harming his wife. Ismail, who works as a livestock farmer, did not dispute the charge when it was presented in court before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti in Kuala Pilah on Friday (Nov 10).
The incident occurred on Tuesday (Nov 7) around 9:10pm near a fast food restaurant in Gemencheh. Ismail was accused of causing harm to his 47-year-old wife, who is a teacher.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. He was also charged under Section 326A of the same legislation, which allows for a jail term of up to double the maximum penalty under Section 323.
According to the details of the case, Ismail’s wife was waiting for the bus to go back to her hometown in Terengganu when he approached her. A dispute ensued, and Ismail proceeded to strangle his wife, hitting her head against the wall and punching her in the face.
Several witnesses observed the attack, and the victim was subsequently taken to the Gemencheh health clinic, where she received two stitches for a forehead injury, along with other medical care.
Muhammad Amirul Noor Hashimi acted as the prosecutor, while the accused did not have legal representation.
