In Sabah’s interior Keningau district, a man lost his life while two passengers sustained injuries when their car crashed into a stationary lorry early Monday morning (July 31). The driver, Gerit Polong, 35, died at the scene, while his 19-year-old and 25-year-old companions were promptly taken to the hospital following the incident at Jalan Kampung Bakiau, which occurred at 1am. The Fire and Rescue Department was notified about the accident at 1.02am and their personnel arrived promptly.
Upon reaching the accident site, firefighters discovered all three individuals trapped inside the car. “Our teams successfully rescued the victims, and the injured persons received initial medical treatment from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit,” stated a spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department. Sadly, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a team from the Health Ministry.
Following the incident, the injured passengers were transported to the district hospital in an ambulance. The police took custody of the deceased driver’s body for further investigation, and the operation concluded at 1.40am, according to the Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson.
