KOTA KINABALU: A father’s two-day search for his son ended in sorrow when he found the lifeless body of the 21-year-old man on the ground of an unoccupied building in Kota Kinabalu on Friday (Aug 4).
The victim, who had been missing since Wednesday (Aug 2), is believed to have fallen from the fifth floor of the building at Jalan Sembulan.
The father, in his 50s, discovered his son’s body around 8am while searching for him. The Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah stated that the police were alerted to the discovery and a team was dispatched to the location.
“Based on preliminary examination by doctors from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (QEH1) emergency unit, the victim was pronounced dead at 9.07am,” ACP Mohd Zaidi said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 5).
According to the medical team, the victim had suffered fractures in his left arm consistent with falling from a significant height.
“The building has been abandoned for almost seven years, and it is believed that the victim had climbed up to the water tank area before falling,” ACP Mohd Zaidi added.
There were footprints on the staircase of the building, and the police also found a portable vape device at the scene that is believed to belong to the victim.
At this point, the police stated that they believe there was no foul play involved, as no weapons were found at the scene.
The body has been sent to the forensics department at QEH1 for an autopsy, and the investigation is currently classified as sudden death.
