The State Government of Terengganu has obtained approval from the Federal Government for an allocation to repair the Sultan Mahmud Power Station (SJSM) in Kenyir, near Hulu Terengganu.

Hanafiah Mat, the chairman of the Terengganu infrastructure, utilities, and rural development committee, stated that the repair works include the restoration of roads, slopes, and bridges, which will be carried out in multiple stages.

He added, “The power station in Kenyir has suffered significant damage due to the major floods that occurred in late February and early March. These floods also caused extensive destruction to various public infrastructures across Terengganu.”

In response to this situation, the Mentri Besar submitted an application on April 16 for a total allocation of RM135.642 million. This allocation will be utilized for repairing roads, slopes, and bridges throughout Terengganu under the supervision of the Public Works Department (JKR). Additionally, damages within the jurisdiction of the Irrigation and Drainage Department amount to RM62.705 million.

Hanafiah Mat shared this information with reporters during a meeting at Wisma Darul Iman in Kuala Terengganu on Tuesday, October 3.
