Felda Perasu settlers in Gua Musang are feeling concerned after spotting a wild elephant in their area that has been causing damage to their crops since August 31.
Sukri Solanuddin, a settler, stated that a tusker had damaged his banana plants and coconut trees near his house. He explained that upon returning from Gua Musang after National Day celebrations, they heard noises at 1 am and the loud sound of zinc being stepped on by the animal. The following morning, they discovered the damage to the banana plants and coconut trees, which were located about two meters away from the house. Sukri expressed his worry for the safety of his family.
Mat Yunus Majid, another settler, claimed that the human-wildlife conflict has been ongoing for the past three years, resulting in significant losses for the residents. He urged the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) to take more aggressive measures to drive away the wild animals and ensure the safety of the residents.
Kelantan Perhilitan Director, Mohamad Hafid Rohani, confirmed that the department has received a report on the latest incident and will be conducting an investigation.
