About 70 households in the Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur are considered to be in the hardcore poor category as their monthly income is below RM1,169. This information was obtained from the updated eKasih database in July. According to MP Zahir Hassan, this is a decrease from the previous data, which identified 124 households as hardcore poor. He made this statement while distributing aid from the Federal Territories Department (JWP) at the Gombak community centre in Taman Melati, Gombak.
Food baskets and cash aid were provided to representatives from approximately 300 households in the Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa, and Titiwangsa parliamentary constituencies. The director-general of JWP, Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim, was also present at the event. Data from JWP revealed that there were about 1,000 hardcore poor households across 11 parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur.
To update household details, the department organized a program in each constituency where representatives were interviewed. The agencies involved in this initiative included the Welfare Department, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council, and the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit.
