The World Gourmet, in partnership with Tourism Malaysia, has announced that the fifth edition of the World Top Gourmet Awards (WTGA) will take place on November 1st in the grand ballroom of Sunway Resort Hotel. The awards ceremony will revolve around the theme “Resilience and Hope,” highlighting the dedication and contributions of both local and international players in the food and beverage industry towards economic growth.

Peggy Chong, the president of World Gourmet, expressed her excitement about presenting 99 awards this year, aiming to enhance the business performances of these F&B players. The F&B sector is expected to grow by 8% and contribute significantly to the country’s economy.

World Gourmet, established in 2017, serves as a platform of excellence in the F&B industry, offering exposure opportunities for both local and international delicacies. The awards provide global exposure for local players and align with Tourism Malaysia’s strategic plan in elevating Malaysia’s position as a gastronomic destination.

Tourism Malaysia aims to achieve a target of 23.5 million international tourists and RM76.8mil in tourism expenditure by 2025. The prestigious WTGA is expected to contribute towards fulfilling these targets, and Nurushama Abdul Hanan, the deputy director of Tourism Malaysia, congratulated World Gourmet for its contributions to the country and the F&B industry.

Nominees for the WTGA are evaluated based on their potential business growth, overall performance, business strategy, and future plans. The awards ceremony anticipates the participation of more international players to encourage multicultural exchange within the industry.

This year, WTGA will appoint additional Chefs of Honor from various countries to expand its reach and support more SMEs in increasing brand awareness. Malaysian violinist, Jessica Loo, gave a teaser performance at the press conference, offering a glimpse of the upcoming awards ceremony in November.
