PETALING JAYA: English teachers and trainees will be demonstrating their inventive solutions to challenges in English language teaching at the upcoming Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (Melta) conference. This event, known as the 31st International Conference 2023, is scheduled to take place at Universiti Malaya (UM) from August 26 to 27. Researchers and educators attending the conference will have the opportunity to engage in important roundtable discussions on English language learning (ELT) in Malaysia.
The conference is themed as “From the Ground-Up: Dreams and Realities of English Language Education” and aims to encourage the exchange of research and foster peer engagement among English language educators. According to a statement by Melta, the event will also provide students with the chance to showcase their projects under the STREAM framework (which encompasses science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and mathematics) through English oral presentations.
Additonally, English teachers and student teachers will have the chance to present their innovative approaches to tackling challenges in English language teaching. Melta President Assoc Prof Dr Ramesh Nair shared that delegates from various countries, including Singapore, Thailand, China, the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, have already confirmed their participation in the conference.
The conference will feature plenary forums and roundtable discussions, adding to the depth and diversity of the event. This gathering of researchers and educators from around the world will not only promote the sharing of ideas and best practices for teaching English, but will also help enhance the standards of English language education in Malaysia.
