Firefighters in Melaka collaborated with the local police force to save a 31-year-old man who had climbed onto the roof of a building in Taman Pertam Jaya. The incident occurred at around 1pm on Sunday, December 10th.
According to the Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit, the man, a foreign national from Myanmar, was unable to communicate effectively due to language barriers. It is still unclear what prompted him to climb onto the rooftop of the one-storey commercial unit.
The Bandar Hilir police station was alerted by the public after the man was spotted on top of the building. The police attempted to convince the man to come down, but he responded by throwing objects at them and continued to stand precariously on the rooftop.
Due to the escalating situation, the police called the Padang Temu Fire and Rescue Department for assistance. The firefighters sprayed water on the man in an effort to prevent him from jumping. Eventually, the police were able to subdue the man after he slipped, sustaining minor injuries in the process.
