Firefighters from the Kota Kinabalu and Lintas Fire Stations faced a challenging situation when they had to overcome a 1km distance before they could extinguish a fire in Kampung Saga, Menggatal, near Kota Kinabalu.
Hamsa Isnurdini, the assistant director (operations) of Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, revealed that the teams encountered a lack of access for fire engines at the location.
In the incident that occurred at 11am, a 12-member team from Kota Kinabalu and an eight-member team from Lintas had to transport all necessary equipment to the scene.
As a result of the fire, four houses that were constructed over water were completely destroyed, while two other houses suffered 10% damage and three houses were successfully saved from the flames.
Hamsa Isnurdini mentioned that a man named Dadin in his 40s sustained burns on his face and was promptly sent to the hospital for treatment. Another man in his 40s also suffered hand injuries and received medical assistance at the site.
The firefighting operation managed to bring the fire under control by 11.15am, and the entire operation concluded at 12.06pm, as reported by Bernama.
