KOTA KINABALU: The search is underway for a fisherman who disappeared in the waters near Pulau Gaya on Monday (Dec 11).
Omar Ajid, a 40-year-old fisherman, did not return home after going out to fish at 5am.
“Villagers discovered his boat with the engine still running at approximately 10am, about 7.6 nautical miles north of Pulau Gaya,” said Sabah and Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral Datuk Che Engku Suhaimi Che Engku Daik.
After the victim’s wife reported her husband’s disappearance, the Kota Kinabalu Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) was activated at 2pm, according to him.
He also mentioned that Omar was last seen wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and green-striped trousers.
“An MMEA vessel was dispatched to the location where he was last seen. We have also alerted other search and rescue agencies to be on the lookout,” Che Engku said.
