KOTA KINABALU: The body of a 33-year-old fisherman who went missing at sea was found on the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation in Tawau on Wednesday (June 12).

The remains of victim Ibnu Hajar Mustamar, were found by a civilian search party at 9.40am, about two kilometres from where he was reported to have gone missing.

The Tawau Fire and Rescue Department initially received a report of the missing person at Indrasabah waters on Tuesday (June 11) at 6.09pm.

“According to the victim’s wife, he left for the sea via Indrasabah jetty on Monday evening (June 10) and failed to return home.

“The victim’s boat was found empty by villagers at 11am the next day between the waters of Kampung Inderasabah and Pulau Kalumpang.

“In the police report, it was suspected that the victim fell into the waters,” said the Department spokesman.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the police, and civilians participated in the SAR operation.

“The body of the victim was handed over to the police for further actions, and the operation ended at 11am,” said the spokesman.
